Practicalities
Rabat is a working Maltese town as well as a heritage centre, so daily essentials are genuinely close — not a drive away.
Getting here & getting around
About 25–30 minutes by taxi or Bolt (typically €20–€30). The direct X3 airport bus runs to Rabat in roughly 45–55 minutes. A pre-booked airport transfer can be arranged on request.
Take bus 50, 51, 52 or 53 from the Valletta terminus to Rabat — around 35–45 minutes. By car or taxi, allow 25–30 minutes outside peak hours.
Bus 202 runs directly to Rabat in 45–60 minutes. By car or Bolt, expect 25–35 minutes depending on traffic.
Buses 65 and 186 connect Mosta to Rabat in about 15–20 minutes. The drive is roughly 10 minutes.
Malta's single bus operator is Tallinja. A single fare is €2 in summer (€1.50 in winter) and a 7-day Explore card is €25. Download the Tallinja app for live times and route planning.
Bolt and eCabs both operate across Malta with upfront pricing — usually the easiest way for evening trips. Avoid unmetered white taxis at ranks unless you agree the price first.
Malta drives on the left. Streets in Rabat are narrow; we recommend parking on the wider streets around Saqqajja Square or near Howard Gardens and walking in. There is no need for a car if you are mainly visiting Rabat, Mdina and Valletta.
Rabat and Mdina are best explored on foot. The main sights, restaurants and bus stops are all within a 10-minute walk of the guest house. Wear comfortable shoes — the limestone streets can be uneven and polished smooth.
Cool Bikes and other rental shops deliver bicycles and e-bikes locally. Bolt scooters are widely available in central Malta but coverage in Rabat itself is limited.
For Gozo, drive to Ċirkewwa (about 30 minutes) for the Gozo Channel ferry; for Comino, the Blue Lagoon boats also leave from Ċirkewwa and Sliema. Valletta–Sliema and Valletta–Three Cities ferries are quick and scenic.
Rabat has gentle gradients but most heritage buildings, including ours, have steps and narrow doorways. Please contact us before booking if you have specific accessibility needs and we will advise honestly on which spaces will suit you.
